Orchids
At one time Orchids were probably only available from specialist nurseries but, over the years, they have been available in garden centres and, even, supermarkets! Indeed, they are widely advertised as an ideal present for Mother's Day each year.
In March 2014 I suddenly realised I had 9 Orchids around the house – I simply adore them! That said, I am a complete novice and, to date, have not tinkered with them in any way as I have been frightened of them dying! I have certainly learnt not to worry if one doesn't flower one year as, invariably, it will do so the following year.
My first Orchid, a Phalaenopsis, was given to me at a school reunion in October 2012 and it has flourished with flowers ever since. Unfortunately many of the Orchids I have purchase so far have been either partially or completely un-named so I have been unable to identify them properly. Additionally I've not kept any record of when the Orchids were bought – all I can say is that they have all been since October 2012!
